“And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart. You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”
Deuteronomy 6:6-7
When parents only desire $100K+ jobs for their children, they are looking at the heart and soul of their children being captured, snatched and put into bondage when their children go to schools and universities and sit under ungodly teachers and professors who do not believe in God.
Children hear that the Bible is not relevant on many campuses. Christian parents go google-eyed when they hear what school their children are going to.
Instead of giving our children away to the world, we need to ground them in sound Biblical teaching and righteous living.
Here are some things that you can do to help your children develop a relationship with Christ:
- Morning Devotion. Every morning, gather your children and wife around the table with your Bibles and read and discuss God’s Word.
- Evening Bible Reading. Every evening, when the children are ready to go to bed, read the Bible and pray with them by their bed.
- Bring them to church every Sunday. If they say they don’t want to go to school or that school is boring, do you allow them to stay home?
- Maintain your own personal devotional time with God. Let your children see you reading your Bible and praying.
- Measure things by the Word of God.
- Children need to have a relationship with God. Help them to build that relationship with God by teaching them about His person, character and nature. He’s holy, just, kind, righteous, loving, he is a jealous God (not wanting anything to compete with Him being God in your life)…
- When you discipline your children, let them know which of God’s commandments they violated and teach them about God’s nature and character. For example, lying is wrong because God is a God of truth and He tells us not to lie.
- Make a game out of Bible reading / memorization time. You say the first part of the Bible verse and have your children complete it.
- Seriously consider and pray about your child’s education. Your children spend 8 hours a day with people you don’t really know teaching them things that have nothing to do with God. Parents are the best conduits of knowledge. The more you learn, the more you can teach them.
- Select a Christian College that is Biblically Sound.
- Don’t be impressed with the world: jobs, money, sports, cars, clothes, beauty and education. Be impressed with God’s truth and righteousness.
- Prepare your children for life using the Bible. Don’t just prepare them for a job. Life is more than a paycheck.
“Do not love the world or the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world—the desires of the flesh and the desires of the eyes and pride of life—is not from the Father but is from the world.”
1 John 2:15-16
